Each year the world waits to find out which Pantone colour will be influencing catwalks, trends and interiors for the next 12 months, here’s what you can expect in 2019.

Recent years have seen Ultra Violet, Rose Quartz and Emerald get crowned, but this year, Living Coral was announced as the number one shade, meaning you’re about to start seeing a lot more of it.

Described by Pantone as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge’, Living Coral is a shade worth considering in 2019, whether you’re incorporating it into your wardrobe, home or beauty regime. We take a look at some of the best ways to shop the trend, alongside the Pantone-certified colour harmonies that combine best with it.

FOR HER

Clockwise from top: American Vintage knitted jumper, £115, Harvey Nichols, Bene Leather Navy Bag, £150, L.K. Bennett, Short-Sleeve Cotton Sweater, £165, Paul Smith, Single-breasted blazer, £290, Emporio Armani, Women’s Coral Suede Leather Loafers, £285, Paul Smith, Triangle Bra, £32, Calvin Klein Underwear

Just as fresh as it is bold, coral can be worn alone for a standout summery look, perfectly paired with vivid turquoise if you’re feeling playful or navy blue to balance it out and tone it down. Whilst the likes of Poiret and Altuzarra showcased light and floaty dress styles for SS19 catwalks, ideal for summer styling, A.P.C offered structured silhouettes with office-chic tailoring, highlighting the versatility of the shade across a range of shapes and styles depending on how you choose to wear it.

FOR HIM

Clockwise from top: Coral Leather Receipt Holder, £120, Paul Smith, Sunspel T-shirt, £85, Burrows & Hare, Suede jacket, £1,100, BOSS, John White Kimpton Chukka Boots, £140, English Brands, Slim-fit linen shirt, £215, Paul Smith

Refresh your wardrobe and add a dash of character to any look for a new season. Whilst catwalks such as Alexander McQueen went all-out coral, Paul Smith and Louis Vuitton layered classic formal styles with statement pattern and print. Get inspired and try it for yourself, and if you’re looking for something a little more wearable, try adding a coral accent to your look and working around it with more neutral hues, whether it’s a wallet, shirt or tee.

FOR THE FACE

Clockwise from top: Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick Tiger Tini, £16, Harvey Nichols, Nars Lipstick in Breaking Free, £21, Harvey Nichols, Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick, £22, Harvey Nichols

The key to coral lipstick is to not overcomplicate it. Keep complexion dewy with a good primer, minimal foundation and a pop of blush, followed by a simple eye and finished with a statement lipstick or gloss. An easy way to switch up a classic red that suits every skin tone.

FOR THE HOME

Clockwise from top: Velvet quilt throw, £229, Heal’s, Kuta floor lamp, £339, BoConcept, Terango Round Shaped Fibre Cement Planter, £29, MADE.COM, Velvet bloom cushion, £85, Heal’s, Tubini Vase, £199, Calligaris

The coral trend isn’t limited to fashion and beauty, in fact, there are plenty of ways to add elements to your home without undergoing a complete overhaul, whether you’re adding an accent wall into your living room, replenishing your cushion collection with a pink print or updating your kitchen accessories. Colour harmonies of natural deep greens and neutral greys will help to create a clean and uplifting atmosphere.
